Spotlight on Arch Manning--staying grounded

Welcome to Yoga by Dayna!  This week, discover how Arch Manning incorporates yoga into his training regimen to enhance flexibility, focus, and overall athletic performance.  We also dive in to the beauty of traveling to places of different cultures and languages.  Having taught yoga in the Dominican Republic this week, we had the honor of meeting 17 beautiful ladies, all over 40, from the Santa Fe area of Argentina.  They're lovely spirit was contagious!  The best gift of the week was learning to slow down.  We are so accustomed to rushing about and we expect others to do the same.  Not here.  Our servers gave their all, but at a slower pace.  One of my students and I were waiting for a delicious beach picnic with homemade paella.  She said, with a laugh in her smile, "Yes, we must pack our patience".

Yoga Therapy by Dayna Weekly Newsletter, August 31st, 2025

Yesterday, after teaching yoga and participating in beach Zumba, it was time to figure out how to get the Longhorn-Buckeye game on our t.v.  Thank goodness for my Youtube Premium subscription and my IPAD, we were able to enjoy the nail biting game.  I do wish it had gone better.  However, it got me thinking, many football players enjoy yoga as part of their training routine.  Does Arch?  Well, yes, as a matter of fact, he does.  A recent article from GQ magazine (Jan 30, 2025) points out that Arch uses yoga and stretching alongside hot-cold tub contrasts and sauna recovery methods.  Makes sense to me...

Why Quarterbacks Rely on Yoga

I cannot imagine the stress levels quarterbacks take on as they lead and motivate their team.  Centering oneself with breathing exercises helps to reset the brain from one of RE-action to calm & collected action.  Calmer decision making is critical in high stress moments.

CENTERING YOURSELF

In our sessions, we start by recognizing our foundation.  Whether it's your sit bones, your feet, or even your back (if you are lying down), this is where you start.  Now imagine your spine lengthening from this point all the way to the skull.  Notice the tickle of breath entering through your nose.

How Yoga helps Quarterbacks (and YOU):

  1. by protecting important muscles in the hips, hamstrings, and shoulders

  2. by helping the body stay grounded and balanced, preventing falls

  3. by helping the CNS system go para-sympathetic for a calmer decision process

  4. by lubricating the joints from repetitive actions with your own synovial fluid
