Learn more: Veritas Health Web Site While cold is helpful to reduce tissue damage and inflammation, it can also provide a local numbing effect to reduce pain. I even use ice for itchy mosquito bites and ant bites.
The idea with using heat is that the warmth stimulates blood circulation. This in turn bring healing nutrients to the injured tissues. Using heat for longer-term pain continues to improve tissue healing and prevent recurrence of pain. Heat can help reduce stiffness in the morning.
