Reducing Inflammation Which of these sound like you? Do you have high blood pressure? Do you have high cholesterol? Do you smoke? Do you get daily exercise? Do fruits and vegetables make it into your diet every day? ![]()
Did you know that heart disease and Alzheimer’s share many of the same modifiable risk factors? Any improvement you make will put you on your way to protect not only your cardiovascular system but also reduce your risk of cognitive decline. Today, while preparing for this blog, I learned that The Alzheimer’s Research & Prevention Foundation (ARPF), uses 4 Pillars of Alzheimer’s Prevention® to guide our future health. Let’s take a quick peek into why these 4 simple points are simply amazing. Welcome to Yoga by Dayna and see whatwe've got cookin' this week!1. Diet & Supplements- Enjoying a predominantly plant-based, Mediterranean-style diet supports healthy blood vessels, which reduces the workload on the heart and may improve blood flow from your heart to the brain.
Research also shows that yoga helps to improve blood flow to every part of the body, including the brain.
2. Stress Management - You may already be aware that chronic stress can worsen hypertension and inflammation, both major risk factors for heart disease and Alzheimer’s. Techniques like yoga or Kirtan Kriya meditation help lower stress hormones and promote healthy blood pressure.
3. Physical & Mental Exercise - Regular physical activity not only lowers the risk of heart disease but also enhances blood flow to the brain, supporting clearer thinking and reduced dementia risk. Mental exercises keep cognitive function sharp, complementing heart-healthy habits.
Have you tried learning a new language? Have you tried learning to play an instrument? Have you tried learning to play a new game like chess or poker?

Spiritual Fitness Research has shown that a sense of purpose and connectedness can decrease inflammation and improve mental well-being and cognitive resilience. On my way to church, I was listening to Cardinal Dolan on Sirius XM Radio who told us a story. He said, “There is faith and there is hope. Do you know the difference? If someone asked you to hold your breath for one minute, could you do it? Are you sure? Could you still be sure that you could do it if you were to be caged and lowered underwater for a full minute?” Wow! In my eyes, our faith does indeed give us a purpose. It also connects us to others, even those who do not have faith. Does faith have to be to a particular deity? Well, that’s not for me to answer. However, at the end of every yoga practice we say, “May the light within me love and shine on the light within you”. "The light" may refer to a positive energy, to faith in God, or to self love and compassion. Filling ourselves up with words of love and kindness go a long way towards improving our well-being. Reducing inflammation through spiritual fitness? Well, is there any reason not to? Chris Walling, PsyD, MBA, C-IAYT Vice President for Education & Outreach Alzheimer’s Research & Prevention Foundation (ARPF) Hey , I want to thank you for taking time to read my blog today. I always learn something new while researching for the blog. I hope my words will inspire you to lead this week with purpose and commitment to your well-being.
