Prepare for Thanksgiving with Chakra Harmony |
Find Your Voice This Thanksgiving Dear yoga friend, as Thanksgiving approaches, many of us prepare to gather with family and friends - sometimes navigating complex dynamics and conversations. This week, I invite you to focus on two powerful chakras that can help you speak your truth with confidence and compassion during the holiday season.
A couple of years ago I wrote a song about feeling unheard amidst others with strong voices. It strongly reflects what some of my clients and I were experiencing at the time. It's called Fifth Chakra and you can access it on my YouTube channel, complete with crazy visuals.
This week, while reviewing the Chakra Energy System, I glimpsed upon something I may have missed originally. While the 5th Chakra, in a beautiful turquoise blue color, expresses the quality of your voice, we can gain additional guidance through our 3rd Chakra. This Chakra, also known as the Solar Plexus, brings an additional quality to consider.
Please meet each of these Chakra friends separately and then let's put them together for optimal use during your Thanksgiving gatherings. Trust me, you'll want to have this knowledge power with you wherever you go! |
The Throat & Solar Plexus Connection Did you know that your Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) governs communication, self-expression, and speaking your truth. When balanced, it allows you to communicate clearly and listen deeply. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Chakras, your Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) is the center of personal power, confidence, and self-esteem. These two energy centers work together to help you express yourself authentically while maintaining your boundaries. |
When family gatherings trigger old patterns or challenging conversations arise, these chakras often become blocked. You might feel a tightness in your throat, butterflies in your stomach, or find yourself unable to speak up when needed - or perhaps speaking too harshly when triggered. Rather than feel "bullied" or rather than "bullying" others, let's take a moment to listen to what is actually happening.
Very important to consider: Your 3rd Chakra (Manipura) has to do with how external circumstances affect you. Meanwhile, your 5th Chakra (Vishuddha) has to do with your internal compass. Other people are more likely to push your buttons if you show up to the gathering a little stressed out, fatigued, or overly pensive.
What if you have to fly or drive for miles and miles in order to meet up with your gathering of folks? What if you arrive tired and "hangry" (surely this is a real word by now)? What if you've left behind a very busy workload only to confront lots of stimuli like busy-ness, chitchat, and commotion?
So, now you're all gathered and someone brings up something negative, religious, political, or just otherwise insensitive. How do you not blow your cool?
First, as my husband so logically says, "Consider the source". Don't let buttons get pushed that have no right to be pushed. Too often news out there is only someone's opinion. As a former journalism major, my professors at Trinity University taught us early on, that, if you cannot report the news without slipping in your own opinion, you are not accurately reporting the news. You are simply judging and sharing what you think to whomever will listen. Guess what? I switched over to Business with a Marketing and Spanish Major. Staying in the Communications major without sharing my opinion was not a reliable ethical decision in my body. I just didn't think I could do it well!
That being said, walking in to whatever situation well grounded goes a long way. Staying out of your head and emotions is a great way to enter. You can always your emotions later when you've had some ample time to digest what is really being said (and what you "think" you heard). |
How the Chakras will Keep you Cool Try these simple techniques to balance your chakras before and during your holiday gatherings: |
Before difficult conversations, place your hand on your belly and take three deep breaths to center yourself. Start your day with throat-opening poses like Bridge, Mountain Pose, and Camel Pose. Got grandkids? Get them in on the act! Practice Solar Plexus strengthening with core work and Warrior poses to build confidence. Visualize a vibrant blue light at your throat and a yellow glow at your solar plexus when preparing to speak. Use a simple affirmation like "I speak my truth with compassion and stand in my power" before family gatherings. |
