NEW SCHEDULE FOR FALL

Let’s take a good look at our newly arrived Fall season. Are you ready for a change in weather? The cooler weather provides relief after our merciless hot summer. After church today, I finally pumped up the tires on my old bike and went for a short bike ride. It was a comfortable and calming experience to navigate around Hudson Bend. While I’m sad to see Vincent’s go, it’s nice to ride by an enthusiastic clientele at Planet Rock and Infamous Brewery. Doss Road always has an interesting array of old and new buildings. The old Sunset RV parks are not fancy but they look like they could be a comfortable place to call Home.

My beautiful blue-eyed horse on Fernandina Beach, near Jacksonville, Florida

This beautiful boy is a horse I rode on in Jacksonville, Florida only a week before the completely devastating Hurricane Ian obliterated Captiva Island, Fort Myers, Sanibel Island (where we went with Bill’s company 4 years ago. I shudder to think that where we stayed is completely gone. How many of you have traveled to Florida? How many of you have traveled to visit family or friends in Florida? It’s surreal to think that so many of these places are now destroyed or at least severely impacted. Scary how our comfort zone can be upturned so suddenly. Hurricanes that knock out almost an entire state in the blink of an eye are common. I didn’t think so. Now I’m not so sure.

What I can share with you is this. For the one hour Bill and I rode horses along quiet Fernandina Beach with only two other clients and a guide, we were completely present.

My horse dazzled me with his beautiful blue eyes. Are blue eyes common in horses? I didn’t think so. We were closely observing how our horses responded to our leads. We watched as beach goers smiled when we rode by. It was just as much a treat for them as it was for us. The waves broke against the shore. Not much happened, and it didn’t matter. We were able to stay present. The weather was normal. The afternoon was sublime.

How do we transition from a moment of calm to a year or more of chaos?

I don’t really have the answer but I do know that yoga has many tools for us to use in order to move through these very difficult periods.

With our earth’s climate continuing to change, more is in store for us. We must have the right tools in order to face these times. Your breath and your connection to your body can and will make all the difference. What coping mechanisms do you use when faced with a dramatic change in your life?

(The Sunshine House, Mile Marker 9 Port Aransas, TX,, circa 1977, https://abnb.me/lxgwDRqFc0)

Now, I move on to this past week, where we spent my birthday in Port Aransas, Tx. Port A and Corpus Christi are the two towns where I grew up. My dad, who was not necessarily book smart, had the vision and the foresight to purchase a teeny tiny house on the beach in Port Aransas in the 1970’s. More on that in another blog. For now, it’s simply miraculous that we are able to spend time there after Hurricane Harvey ripped it apart. Here is sunrise on the morning of my birthday, October 5th. It was a very quiet day, and it was just perfect. My fancy dinner? Pizza from the Pizzeria.

What I enjoyed most, in addition to seeing several of my siblings, was the time I spent walking on the beach. I wore my Ipods and listened to the songs I’d be singing at church today at Emmaus. I missed rehearsal because we were HERE so I committed daily walks to listening to YouTube recordings of every song I’d be singing and playing this Sunday. God blest technology when it can be used to enhance the music and the arts!

Home Again in Austin

I’m also grateful to be home again. The UT game greatly motivated us on our long drive back to Austin. I even found a super fast charging station at a SuperCenter Walmart in San Antonio. My little electric car got us all the way to Port Aransas and back to Hudson Bend for about $5. Yes, really!

Today's message

The Gospel reading this morning was very simple. Jesus healed ten lepers. Out of ten, only one came back to say Thank You. I could also do better at saying Thank you. I now say Thank you to all of my former and current students at Yoga by Dayna.

For the Fall season, we are making some changes. The biggest change has to do with MindBody. While it was very helpful during Covid, the $550 monthly charge is too much to justify to run a very small business. It’s time that I must let it go. It's also time to evolve.

I can't wait to tell you more about future Yoga + Wine Retreats at Vino Vida in Fredericksburg. Don't miss a single blog or you just might miss the event of the Winter.

We are returning to a very simple Zoom platform. Acuity Scheduling will permit you to register and Square will invoice you when you are kind enough and available to show up for my Private Yoga Therapy, Private Yoga, Therapy + CoreFirst Bands and for my weekly Delicious Deep Stretch and Posture Perfect Yoga Classes.

I will probably have to curtail a few of my Posture Perfect Yoga classes. Apparently, few people believe in the need to improve posture and strengthen back and core. I hope to hear from a few of you to know that this isn't really the case and that all we need to do is "tweak" a few things. PS Thank you for your referrals. Your referrals have kept me growing for 10 years in a row now! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'd like to especially thank Kim & Joel Manjarris, Carol & Chris Sapstead, Judy & Andy Hyatt, Susan Johnson, Dr. Kendall Shipp, Christopher & Michelle McGough, Jocelyn & Brad Brandt, Susan Thomas, Paula Hallock, Christina Cole, Bianca DeLeon, Dani Boykin, Liz & Mike Walters, Dr. Ryan Smith, Dani Boykim, and Christine Hickman (whose son was just married in Spain!)

Please stay attuned to the most recent changes. The one most notable this week occurs this Wednesday. Delicious Deep Stretch occurs at 12:15 p.m. instead of noon. We will stay with MindBody until November first. You will not need to do anything different until then.

The major difference is that I will need to ask for your credit card (or Venmo) for November purchases. That’s about it.
