Are you feeling depleted?

Hey there, how does this quote resonate with you? I was thinking about how much of our day isn’t simply busy, but emotionally depleting.

Are you feeling Depleted?

Let’s face it, driving in traffic on Ranch Road 620, IH-35, or anywhere in your area that is full of traffic, can leave you weary and frustrated.

How often must you take trips to the doctor? Which doctor do you ask? Exactly. You may have finally reached that magic year where you are able to retire, but spending all your free time in medical offices and parking garages is not what you signed up for!

We are blessed to rely on a state of the art medical system, but too much of a good thing is no longer terrific.

Now, thinking about this past week, what activities and errands did you do that left you feeling energized or relaxed? This past Tuesday was exceptionally busy with students for me, but one client had to cancel because of an emergency. Rather than using the time for administrative work, I walked over to my piano. Our choir director Heather is so helpful by providing our sheet music weeks at a time in advance. Therefore, without having had a rehearsal, I played the notes out on the piano. When I had a fair idea of how the song goes, I reached for my guitar and played it several times. Everything else in the day disappeared during that time. My mind was allowed a break from the usual routine to focus on something creative and free. My session afterwards with a client went well; I felt refreshed again.

When you really are stuck in your vehicle for most of the day, what do you listen to? I love NPR but I also listen to other stations. Sometimes I whip out my vocal warm-up recording and sing along. Sometimes, I practice Spanish by listening to CNN en español. Sometimes I switch to Watercolors and relax to jazz. Sometimes I simply need to turn the radio OFF. What can you tune into to create the state of mind you want to be in?

What are some things that interest you? Do you have a certain magazine you love to catch up on? Do you put food out for the birds? Does your pet need a good petting and scratching? Perhaps you need to check your mailbox? Could you simply lie down and let your body feel gravity and the earth’s energy?

This week I’d like to ask you to focus on introducing a few things into your day that simply interest you. Maybe you have a musical instrument that needs dusting off? You get the picture.

Meet Oggy

So, the dog award this week goes to a beautiful Springer Spaniel named Oggy. Oggy is the new puppy belonging to Judy and Andy Hyatt, who already have an older Springer Spaniel. We do our yoga sessions on Zoom, so I am often privy to watching the two dogs frolic and play with joy, right in the middle of the session. I love it!! This past week, when we were taking our 30 minute water break (Samastitih), I noticed Oggy sitting on Andy’s yoga mat. This means that Andy practiced on the hard floor! Oggy was performing a beautiful version of Savasana that is usually reserved for pregnant women, who usually prefer to lay on their sides. Enjoy!

Winter storms to Springtime weather, all within a week. Yes, we live in Texas. Perhaps the weather has influenced my yoga business. I’m not really sure, but it has really revved up again, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Be sure to get in your requests early.

Come join me in the studio!

Starting in early April, we leave for Franklin, Tennessee to meet our new grandbaby! Later in April, Bill and I will be leaving for a week of training in the Dominican Republic. In May we leave for a teaching trip to Curacao. All virtual sessions will continue (as much as possible). The private students do get preference over classes, but I’ll do my best to continue with both.

Now is the time to get your yoga mojo on. And starting March 12th, you’ll get to meet our new puppy! I do ask for your patience for the first two months (or years.. Just kidding). We will be in full training from week one. And who can resist a puppy, especially one that is completely hypoallergenic?

This week's schedule is on fire! Take a look...
